Berkeley House is a 18-bed specialist nursing home that supports people with complex needs in the Pemberton, Wigan area.

Berkeley Gardens has 18 beds and offers a step-down service from our specialist nursing unit “Berkeley Village” and from the community and hospital settings.

The home has recently developed an extension of 18 beds due to the high need in the local area for beds for people 18 years upwards with brain injury, mental health, complex needs, neurological conditions, cognitive impairment or dual diagnosis. This will take the home up to a 36-bed care home.

The amenities and facilities within the town centre are approximately 1 mile away. The home is set upon the same site as the company’s nursing home, Appleby Court.

All rooms are en-suite and are tastefully furnished to a high standard, providing a television point, telephone point and nurse call system in each room.

The facilities also includes a variety of lounge, dining and communal areas.

The home is based over two units and both have been built to the highest standards and developed to provide a 36-bed care home over 2 units with multi-disciplinary input.

Berkeley House main building is spread is over 3 floors, 6 beds to each floor, giving a feel of community living within a care home.

Berkeley House extension building is adjacent to home and spread over one floor with various lounges, kitchen and outdoor area.

This enables staff to ensure service users receive person centred care with high staffing levels in a calm and caring environment.

The service will provide person centred, rehabilitative care services for people aged 18 years and above who may have mental health, complex needs and/or acquired brain injury with complex needs.

  • To provide a community-based, service for people with acquired brain injury, complex health needs and/or mental health needs based on models of best practice and current research.
  • To provide a needs-led service with its Service Users and families.
  • To provide Service Users with the best quality of life possible through community based living, with supported development of personal competence, development of relationships and networks and offering and supporting choices.
  • To provide individual support, goals and care planning for service users requiring continuing healthcare, long term rehabilitation or short term placements which require the additional staffing, nursing and MDT structure Berkeley House provides.
  • To provide an environment of trust, security and respect; to facilitate personal growth and development.
  • To support Service Users to access generic services and ensure that their needs receive appropriate specialist resources.
  • To help Service Users develop positive feelings of value and self-worth.
  • To ensure that each Service User has individualised care plans, which set realistic and achievable goals, which are implemented and reviewed.
  • To respect the confidentiality, privacy and dignity of Service Users and carers at all times.
  • To offer Service Users support to take acceptable positive risks in order to fulfil their potential.
  • To ensure that the right skill mixes are available to meet Service Users needs by investing in staff development to provide a progressive and expert workforce.
  • To keep Service Users, carers, staff and purchasers informed of decisions in an open and honest way, and to consult with people about decisions that affect them.

Each Service User will have their own private bedroom, and will be given a key to that room.  Spare keys will be kept by staff in a key safe in the Manager’s office and would only be used in an emergency.

Each Service User will have free access to all communal areas of the home.

Each Service User will have an individually tailored care plan, based on assessment, which will incorporate some/all of the following core areas:
